• Menopause mayhem?

Recently my life has leapt forward. Back last summer, within 24 hours, my body didn’t seem to know what it was supposed to be doing.  Hot flushes came in surges with alarming intensity. Anxiety bubbled beneath the surface. Sometimes it would rush at me from behind like a wave, crashing into me to knock me off my feet, landing me face first in the surf and leaving me to struggle with my breath, desperately trying to figure out which way was up. At times my usual calm composure would crack, with intolerance and sarcasm bursting forth. And the brain fog! What am I doing? What’s that called? How do I do that? Surely an adjustment of hormones couldn’t fundamentally change my body, my mind, my personality,  my principles? Oh yes. Sound familiar?
My practice of Reiki has certainly given me a self awareness and the tools to stop, think, calm down and adjust my behaviour. It has let me pause and contemplate that my beautiful mind and body is transforming into another state of beauty. The metamorphosis has been causing disruption but there is a plethora of remedies to aide me.
For me, acceptance has been the key to acknowledge the possibilities that lie ahead. I don’t want to chase an ever youthful appearance and experience the disappointment that comes with all that chasing. I want to be me – in all my glory and with all my foibles. I will look after my bodily health and my mental health and I will ask for support when I need it. And I will be grateful that I have come this far.
